KR Dragonfly Scores in Lubbock
Stakes
Hobbs, NM – Oct. 1, 2011 - KR Dragonfly, a homebred 4-year-old
daughter of Separatist racing for Dave and Sally Kidd, let at every
call en route to a half-length victory in Saturday's $55,000 Lubbock
Stakes (G2) for fillies and mares at Zia Park.
Prepped by Mike Joiner and ridden by Salvador Martinez, KR Dragonfly
went 400 yards in :19.137 to earn a 99 speed index and break by
9/100ths of a second the previous stakes record set by Shesa First
Ratify in 2010. The victory also represented her first career stakes
win.
KR Dragonfly is a Colorado-bred mare who was coming off of a
half-length win in a 330-yard allowance-optional claiming race at
Zia Park on September 11. Her sire, Separatist, was the AQHA
champion 2-year-old colt in 1999 and champion 3-year-old the
following season.
Racing from 1999-2000, Separatist earned $889,044 from 24 starts at
Los Alamitos, and his 16 wins included seven stakes victories. The
stallion's top earners include AQHA champions and Grade 1 winners DM
Shicago and Inseperable. He stands at Burns Ranch at Menifee,
California.
KR Dragonfly is also one of five winners from six starters produced
by her dam, the 16-year-old Sixarun mare Dreamers Wild Child. KR
Dragonfly is a half sister to stakes winner Straw Fly Dreams.
All told, KR Dragonfly has won five of 11 races, and the $33,000
winner's share of the Lubbock Stakes purse pushed her earnings to
$83,326. Two years ago, the mare ran third in the $101,640 Rocky
Mountain Futurity at Arapahoe Park.
Personal Glory, Raise Ur Corona, 3-10 favorite Jenuine Joy, and
Chains And Whips completed the order of finish.
A 3-year-old filly by Walk Thru Fire, Personal Glory races for Hugo
Barron Sierra. Personal Glory has banked $171,554 from three wins in
12 starts, and she was coming off of a second-place finish to Raise
Ur Corona in the September 5, $30,000 Manuel Lujan Stakes (G3) at
The Downs at Albuquerque.
Personal Glory's stakes resume also includes a third-place finish in
First Down Illusion's 2010 Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) at Los
Alamitos.
Raise Ur Corona is a 3-year-old Corona Casanova filly campaigned by
Guillermo Rodriguez. The filly has won five of 11 races – including
the Manuel Lujan Stakes and the June 19, $49,310 Lucille Rowe Derby
(R) for Colorado-breds at Arapahoe Park – and she has earned
$83,107.
