Feature Mr. Bojangles heads Hobbs
America Futurity Field Hobbs, NM –
Sept. 24 ,2011 - Grade 1 winner Feature Mr Bojangles ran his win
streak to five with a 2 1/4-length victory in the second of six
Hobbs America Futurity (G2) trials at Zia Park on Saturday
Saddled by Roberto Sanchez for
owners R.D. Hubbard, James E. Helzer, SM Cattle Export Co., and
Jaime Dominguez, Feature Mr Bojangles covered 400 yards in :19.283
under jockey G.R. Carter Jr. and posted the fastest qualifying time
for the $265,000 Hobbs America Futurity final on October 9.
Feature Mr Bojangles has won five
of his six starts and has earned $416,840 while racing exclusively
in New Mexico. The sorrel colt by the late Feature Mr Jess has won
two graded stakes, including the Grade 1, $700,000 Rainbow Futurity
at Ruidoso Downs on July 24.
Second-fastest qualifier Mr Taka B
won the fourth heat by a nose in :19.413. The gray Feature Mr Jess
colt was prepped by John Stinebaugh and ridden by Joe Martinez for
owner Vanessa Bartoo of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.
