Hayley's Halo Extends Win Streak
in Zia Park Distaff
Hobbs, NM Nov. 26, 2011 - Lathrop G. Hoffman's Hayley's Halo ran
her win streak to five with a wire-to-wire, one-length victory in
Saturday's $55,000 Zia Park Distaff Stakes at Zia Park.
Saddled by Henry Dominguez and ridden by Alejandro Medellin,
Hayley's Halo established fractions of :22.48 and :45.65 before she
stopped the timer in 1:10.10 for 6 furlongs. The homebred 4-year-old
filly returned a $3.60 win mutuel as the 4-5 favorite in the field
of eight fillies and mares.
Hayley's Halo was bred in California, and the filly is one of 16
stakes winners sired by Sea Of Secrets, a 16-year-old stallion by
Storm Cat who won the Grade 2, $106,800 San Vicente Stakes (G2) at
Santa Anita in 1998. Sea Of Secrets' 333 starters have earned more
than $16.3 million, and they include Hermosillo, a 7-year-old
gelding who won the September 17, $100,000 Charles Hesse III Stakes
at Monmouth Park in New Jersey. He stands for a $2,500 fee at
Ballena Vista Farm at Ramona, California.
Hayley's Halo is also one of four winners from as many starters
foaled by Hilo Halo, an unraced Kentucky-bred mare by Peaks And
Valleys. The filly's third dam, Luthier's Launch, won the 1989
Dogwood Stakes at Churchill Downs.
Campaigned in California and New Mexico, Hayley's Halo has won 11 of
20 races, and the $33,000 winner's share of the Zia Park Distaff
Stakes purse pushed her bankroll to $365,060. She has won eight
stakes, including the 1-mile, $60,000 Chaves County Stakes at Zia
Park on October 2, and she ran second to Harissa in last year's 1
1/16-mile, $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks.
Queen Greeley ran second and was followed by Pyrite On My Mind, Last
Wager, Chalula One, Angel At Home, Loose Play, and D' Elegance.
Queen Greeley is a 4-year-old daughter of Mr. Greeley racing for
Chris and Barbara Coleman of Farmington, New Mexico. A $160,000 buy
at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearling Sale, the filly
has won five of 14 races, including three stakes, and has earned
$180,620.
Pyrite On My Mind has banked $73,876 from 13 outs for her owner,
Gary Butcher. The 4-year-old filly by Seattle Fitz (ARG) has won two
races, and she ran second in the 2010 Island Fashion Stakes and El
Paso Times Stakes at Sunland Park.
