Git Er Done
Breaks Track Record in Herman Jefferson Stakes
Hobbs, NM – Oct. 15, 2011 - Git Er Done broke Zia Park's 870-yard
track record, as the 8-year-old gelding scored a 1 1/4-length
victory in Saturday's Grade 3, $55,000 Herman Jefferson Stakes.
Owned and trained by Martin Orona Sr., Git Er Done covered 870 yards
in :44.303 under jockey Vicente Grajeda. The clocking earned the son
of Holland Ease a 105 speed index, and it broke by 12/1000ths of a
second the previous track record set by Into The Zone in 2005.
Git Er Done was bred in Oklahoma by Nancy Wise and David Ratliff.
The gelding's sire, Holland Ease, banked $361,227 from 1991-93, and
his six wins in 27 outs included the '92 Golden State Derby (G1) at
Los Alamitos. His top runners include Grade 1 winner Corona Cartel,
one of
Holland Ease is a 22-year-old stallion by all-time leading sire
First Down Dash, and his top runners include Grade 1 winner Corona
Cartel, who is currently one of Quarter Horse racing's top sires.
Git Er Done's dam, Queen Of Everything, is a winning 15-year-old
daughter of the Kaskaskia (TB) stallion Coup de Kas (TB). The
gelding's third dam, the Duplicate Copy mare Miss Golden Copy, won a
futurity at Wyoming Downs in 1985.
All told, Git Er Done has won 13 of 44 starts, and the $33,000
winner's share of the Herman Jefferson Stakes purse increased his
earnings to $254,738.
Tango Blue, 11-10 favorite De Passem Okey, Flyin Fish, and Tokay
Flame completed the order of finish.
Tango Blue was making his first start since January 18, when he ran
fifth in an 870-yard, $40,000 allowance race at Sunland Park. A
4-year-old gelding by Favorite Trick (TB) owned by Donald C. Boyle
and trainer Paul Jones, Tango Blue has won four of 15 races –
including last year's 870-yard, $55,000 King Rick Rack Stakes (G2)
at Zia Park – and he has banked $85,755.
De Passem Okey is the reigning AQHA champion distance horse. Racing
for Steve A. Holt, the 5-year-old Okey Dokey Dale gelding has earned
$257,029 from 30 outs, and his 14 wins include six stakes.
