De Passem Okey Wins King Rick Rack Stakes

Hobbs, NM – Nov. 20, 2011 - Alejandro Medellin rode De Passem Okey to a 1 3/4-length win in Sunday's $55,180 King Rick Rack Stakes (G2) at Zia Park.

Saddled by Fred Danley for owner Steve A. Holt, De Passem Okey went 870 yards in :44.729 and earned a 99 speed index. The $33,000 winner's share of the purse increased the 5-year-old gelding's earnings to $290,821.

De Passem Okey was bred in Oklahoma by Eddie L. Moore DVM. The gelding's sire, Okey Dokey Dale, won the 1999 Ruidoso Derby (G2) and was that season's AQHA champion 3-year-old colt. His leading runners include Okey Dokey Fantasy, a three-time Grade 1-winning futurity winner in 2006, and 2005 Hobbs America Derby winner Scrutinizer.

A 15-year-old son of all-time leading sire First Down Dash, Okey Dokey Dale is owned by the Pierce Family Partnership. He stands for a $2,000 fee at Pierce Ranch at Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

De Passem Okey is also one of two winners from as many starters produced by Impassable Gal (TB), a winning 15-year-old daughter of the Carr de Naskra (TB) stallion Sir Richard Lewis. The gelding's second dam, the Notna's Prince mare Luscious Linfa, ran second in the 1984 Princess Handicap at Jefferson Downs in Louisiana.

All told, De Passem Okey has won 15 of 32 races, including five of eight this season. The King Rick Rack marks the gelding's fourth stakes victory of the year; earlier this year, he won the 870-yard, $77,400 Remington Distance Handicap (G3) on May 28, as well as two 870-yard stakes at Prairie Meadows.

Tango Blue ran second, one length in front of 9-5 favorite Git Er Done. Apollos First Down, Whata Lucky Man, Bullets Brother, Klassic Strawfly, and Hez Our Rock completed the order of finish.

A 4-year-old gelding by Favorite Trick (TB) racing for Donald Boyle and trainer Paul Jones, Tango Blue has banked $97,940 from 17 starts, and his four wins include a 3 1/4-length score in last year's King Rick Rack Stakes.

Git Er Done was coming off of a 1 ˝ length victory over Tango Blue in the October 15, 870-yard Herman Jefferson Stakes (G3) a Zia Park. Owned and trained by Martin Orona Sr., the 8-year-old Holland Ease gelding has won 13 of 45 races, including three stakes, and has earned $260,238.
