Jam’n Jackson Rallies In KLAQ Handicap

Sunland Park, NM - Dec. 10, 2011 -  Harold and Pamela Tillema’s Jam’n Jackson benefitted from every fast early fractions set by City Stage to rally and score an 8-1 upset win in the $50,000 KLAQ Handicap at Sunland Park on Saturday afternoon.

City Sage burst to the lead and went the first quarter mile in :21.02 and the first half mile in :43.41 while Jam’n Jackson under Alejandro Medellin comfortably raced in third position. Jam’n Jackson then made a three-wide move on the turn and prevailed through the stretch to win by one-half length in 1:02.71 for the five-and-one-half furlongs.

City Sage held a clear lead entering the stretch and held on for second while 6-5 favorite Ducky Drake, winner of last year’s KLAQ, finished third in the field of eight of the fastest sprinters in the Southwest.

Jam’n Jackson scored his first stakes win in his sixth start for trainer Henry Dominguez. The gelding came into the KLAQ with three wins, including two allowance wins this fall. In one of those allowance race’s he zipped six furlongs in 1:08.32.
