Call Me A Blazn Chic Tops Shue Fly
Trials
Sunland Park, NM - Dec. 16, 2011 - J & M Racing and Farm’s Call Me A
Blazn Chic wrapped up her juvenile campaign in winning form and has
the opportunity to start her sophomore season in similar fashion
after setting the fastest-qualifying time to the $296,332 Shue Fly
Stakes for New Mexico-breds on Friday afternoon at Sunland Park.
The 10-fastest qualifiers from the seven 400-yard trials qualified
for the finals on January 7 at Sunland Park.
The Vicente Grajeda-ridden Call Me A Blazn Chic crushed her
competition in her trial when she easily won by one-and-three
quarter lengths and her time of :19.413 was recorded while facing a
16-mph headwind. It was her third win from eight starts and each of
those wins have come in her latest four starts for trainer Roberto
Sanchez.
The Chicks A Blazin filly has won at profitable times. She won her
maiden while taking the Zia Futurity at Ruidoso Downs and she won
the New Mexico Classic Futurity in her prior start.
The Robert Rivera-owned and -trained My Big Chief stepped forward
after an allowance win to defeat Mountain Top Futurity winner Sammy
James and set the second-fastest qualifying time of :19.520. Isbell
Charolias’ Sammy James checked in with the third-fastest time of
:19.557.
A gelded son of Get Down Perry, My Big Chief was sixth in the New
Mexico Breeders Futurity at SunRay Park in his only other stakes
appearance.
The Trey Wood-trained Sammy James, a son of Jesse James Jr, has been
among the elite New Mexico-bred juveniles with three wins and two
second-place finishes from six starts, all in futurities or trials.
The complete list of qualifiers and their times are Call Me A Blazn
Chic (:19.413), My Big Chief (:19.520), Sammy James (:19.557), Wind
Knocker (:19.668), My Soul Mate (:19.684), Pk Bay (:19.693), Chick
