Brothers First-Third In Jess
Burner
Sunland Park, NM - Dec. 10, 2011 - The brothers Here Kittykittykitty
and One Diamond Kitty made the $110,000 Jess Burner Handicap for
older New Mexico-breds a family party by finishing first and third
on Saturday afternoon at Sunland Park.
The two geldings, bred by Jay and Mary Lou Standefer, are each sired
by
Genuine Strawfly and out of One Diamond Cat by Now I Know.
Melvin Neugebauer and Jill Giles’ Here Kittykittykitty raced to the
neck win over favored Quatro Menudos with One Diamond Kitty one
length behind for third.
Here Kittykittykitty raced the 400 yards in :19.263 under jockey G.R.
Carter Jr.
The Wes Giles-trained Here Kittykittykitty was second by a nose
behind One Diamond Kitty in last year’s Jess Burner. He only made
one start earlier this year, a lackluster sixth-place finish in the
Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap.
Runner-up Quatro Menudos, owned by Paul Wood and Bill McCarty, was
the 17-10 favorite after winning six of his seven career starts. The
Papis Aladavez-trained gelding won the Shue Fly Stakes nearly a year
ago and came off a win in the New Mexico Classic Derby.
A and C Ranching and Roping’s One Diamond Kitty, trained by Paul
Jones, narrowly won last year’s Jess Burner over Here
Kittykittykitty to cap a three-race winning streak. He has not found
the winner’s circle from four outs this year.
