REMINGTON DASH BY A NOSE TO SPEEDING

OKLAHOMA CITY – March 27, 2011- Specialists were featured Sunday at Remington Park in the $25,000 Remington Dash, a 250-yard event. Speeding managed a quick start and showed great determination in gutting out the victory by a nose.

Owned by Sylvia Shaw Pitman of Jacksonville, Fla. and trained by John Buchanan, Speeding was ridden by Russel Hadley. The 4-year-old mare was best from the starting gate and then held off gaining efforts by Cajun Camelot and Whonew, the second and third-place finishers.

Speeding handled the 250-yards of the Remington Dash in :13.063 seconds over a fast track.

Overlooked in the wagering at 8-1 odds, Speeding paid $18.40 to win, $4.80 to place and $6 to show. Cajun Camelot paid $4 to place and $3.60 to show. Whonew paid $9.60 to show. Quik Brew was the beaten 3-5 wagering favorite, finishing fourth.

A Texas-bred daughter of Shazoom from the First Down Dash mare Speedy Empress, Speeding won her third career race from 16 attempts and her second overall at Remington Park. The $15,000 first-place check for the Remington Dash increases her lifetime earnings to $76,333.

Jockey Oscar Delgado enjoyed a riding triple on Sunday. He started his hat trick in race two with CY Rare Sweet Babe ($19.20 to win) and continued with Shimmerfox ($10) in race four before finishing off with Sleazoom ($31.60) in race eight.

The three wins gives Delgado a total of five for the season. G.R. Carter leads the jockey standings with 24 victories.
