MIGHTY B VALIANT IMPRESSES AS TOP QUALIFIER DURING
FIRST NIGHT OF REMINGTON PARK FUTURITY TRIALS
OKLAHOMA CITY - The first dozen trials for 2-year-olds was conducted
Saturday night to send five qualifiers to the Remington Park Futurity.
Mighty B Valiant scorched the track in his career debut, winning easily
while setting the standard for the evening.
Owned by the You and Me Partners of Lawton, Okla. and trained by Raymond
Vargas, Mighty B Valiant handled 330 yards in :16.699 seconds over the
fast track with G.R. Carter up. The precocious colt appears to have
plenty of upside as he burst away from his eight rivals at the halfway
point of the fourth trial, winning by 2-3/4 lengths over the runner-up
Johns Party Chick.
As the heavy 1-5 wagering favorite, Mighty B Valiant paid $2.60 to win,
$3.40 to place and $2.20 to show.
Bred in Oklahoma by Homer Hill of Lawton, Okla., Mighty B Valiant is by
Valiant Hero from the On A High mare Mighty B Doll. His resounding
career debut was worth $8,784 for his first-place run with much larger
earning potential now awaiting him.
The Remington Park Futurity, contested for the first time only for
eligible Oklahoma-breds, will be the richest state-bred futurity in the
nation. The April 16 final for the top qualifiers will be worth
$780,000. Joining Mighty B Valiant from Saturday’s trials will be: Fast
Prize Jordan, :16.86; Cash for Wagon Boss, :16.914; Folly Del Rey,
:16.933 and BPs Jumpin Frisco, :16.945.
Trainer Eddie Willis saddled BPs Jumpin Frisco ($7.80 to win) to victory
in the second trial and qualification. That was one of six wins on the
program for Willis. He also sent BP Holland Cartel ($5.80) to victory in
race one, Easydoesitcindy ($2.60) in race six, Watah Success ($19.40) in
the ninth. Tel A Story ($9.20) in the 10th and BP Valiant Man ($10.60)
in the 12th.
The six wins for Willis gives him 27 for the season and moves him to a
12-win lead over Luis Villafranco in the trainer standings.
Jockey Jimmy Brooks rode five of the Willis winners, scoring with BP
Holland Cartel, BPs Jumpin Frisco, Easydoesitcindy, Tel A Story and Bp
Valliant Man.
Brooks now has 27 wins for the season, just one behind G.R. Carter who
leads the standings with 28.
A dozen more Remington Park Futurity trials will be contested on Sunday
afternoon with the five fastest from those events joining the Saturday
qualifiers in the lucrative April 16 final.
