TOP QUALIFIER ADOLPH TRES KNOCKOUT WINS OKLAHOMA FUTURITY

OKLAHOMA CITY – March 19, 2011 - Adolph Tres Knockout posted the fastest time from 14 trials on Opening Weekend at Remington Park for the Oklahoma Futurity. Saturday night she took the historic main event by a neck as the 8-5 wagering favorite.

The Grade 3, $326,000 Oklahoma Futurity, run every year since 1947, went to 2-year-old filly Adolph Tres Knockout who gained control of the 300-yard race late to score. Owned by Lawrence Puig of Laredo, Texas and trained by Kenneth Griggs, Adolph Tres Knockout was ridden by Paul Nieto. She crossed the finish in :15.382 seconds over the fast track, holding off a late charge by Zack of Hearts for victory. Kelli Kae was fastest from the start but could not maintain her early advantage, settling for third in finishing a half-length behind the top pair.

Nieto was confident going into the Oklahoma Futurity after her trials performance on March 5. “She pulled up good after her trial,” Nieto said. “The filly was feeling good, I thought she’d run better or the same.”

Griggs was equally pleased with Adolph Tres Knockout’s big win. “She’s a natural. She knows what to do and how to do it.”

Adolph Tres Knockout paid $5.20 to win, $4.40 to place and $3.60 to show. Zack of Hearts returned $10.80 to place and $6 to show. Kelli Kae paid $5.40 to show.

Undefeated through two lifetime starts, Texas-bred Adolph Tres Knockout earned $130,400 for the Oklahoma Futurity triumph to push her young career earnings to $136,184. She was bred in Texas by James & Marilyn Helzer and is by Tres Seis from the Holland Ease mare Oh Whatta Knockout.

$135,000 Oklahoma Quarter Horse Derby
In other stakes races on the Oklahoma Futurity program, the $135,000 Oklahoma Derby went to the professional Freighttrain B who won by 1-1/2 lengths with plenty in reserve.

Owned by the Cedar Hill, Texas partnership of James Sills and Gerald Swindell and trained by Eddie Willis who saddled four winners on the night, Freighttrain B was ridden by Jimmy Brooks. The 3-year-old colt left the starting gate sharply and cruised over the 350 yards in :17.381 seconds, pulling away for the daylight win over the final half of the race.

Capo de Capi, a stable-mate of the winner, ran second by a nose over third-place finisher First Corona Special.

The heavy wagering favorite at 2-5 odds, Freighttrain B gave Brooks his third win on the program and paid $2.80 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. Capo de Capi paid $3.20 to place and $2.80 to show. First Corona Special paid $3.60 to show.

A colt by PYC Paint Your Wagon from the Mr Eye Opener mare Dianetogetcha, Freighttrain B won his sixth career race from 10 starts while scoring for the fourth time at Remington Park. The Oklahoma Derby was worth $54,000 to his overall earnings of $343,834. He was bred in Texas by Bill Price and Bob Peterson.

Grade 1, $91,000 Oklahoma Paint Futurity
BP Cartels Paint narrowly defeated Flashthechicks by a nose in the first futurity of the season for Paint horses. Owned by Bill Price of Thackerville, Okla. and trained by Eddie Willis, BP Cartels Paint led throughout the 300 yards under Jimmy Brooks to cross the finish in :15.611 seconds.

The wagering favorite at 7-5 odds, BP Cartels Paint paid $4.80 to win, $3 to place and $2.40 to show. Flashthechicks returned $4.60 to place and $2.60 to show. Fly Shari Fly was third and paid $4.40 to show.

Bred in Oklahoma by Price, BP Cartels Paint remained undefeated through two starts in his young career, both at Remington Park. The 2-year-old gelding made $35,180 for the Oklahoma Paint Futurity to grow his lifetime bankroll to $38,564.

Grade 1, $60,865 Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby
Won with authority by The Cock of the Walk, the Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby, the winner also ended the successful streak of the much-heralded Rio Rojo Jessie.

Owned by Wade Leggett of Muskogee, Okla. and trained by Luis Villafranco, The Cock of the Walk was ridden by Kenny Muntz. He crossed the finish a half-length better than Rio Rojo Jessie.

In winning the Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby, The Cock of the Walk also became the first horse to ever finish ahead of Rio Rojo Jessie. The latter had never been beaten in a race, although she was disqualified once in her previous seven attempts for interference. The Cock of the Walk handled 350 yards in :17.631 seconds.

Favored at 6-5 odds, The Cock of the Walk paid $4.60 to win, $3 to place and $2.20 to show. Rio Rojo Jessie paid $3 to place and $2.80 to show. Streakin Seven was third and paid $3.60 to show.

Bred in Oklahoma by Leggett, The Cock of the Walk won his third race from six career starts and posted his second straight win at Remington Park. The winner’s share of $23,065 moved his lifetime earnings to $60,233. He is a 3-year-old gelding by SF Royal Quick Flash from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Lace.

$28,900 Bugs Alive In 75 Stakes
Earlier on the Saturday program, Easydoesitcindy won the Bugs Alive In 75 Stakes for 2-year-old Oklahoma-breds. Owned by Abel Flores of San Antonio and trained by Eddie Willis, Easydoesitcindy was ridden by 69-year-old sensation Roy Brooks.

A 2-year-old filly by Scrutinizer from the Corona Cartel mare Cindys First CD, Easydoesitcindy won her first career attempt by three-quarters of a length, handling 300 yards in :15.581 seconds.

The wagering favorite at 3-2 odds, Easydoesitcindy paid $5 to win, $3.20 to place and $3 to show. CC Dynasty ran second and paid $4.40 to place and $3.20 to show. Rmiss Jessy was third and returned $2.80 to show.

Easydoesitcindy made earned $17,040 for the win in the event named after the 1975 All American Futurity winner, Bugs Alive In 75.

The live racing weekend concludes on Sunday at Remington Park with 12 races starting at 1:30pm.
