Vamoose Stalks And Rallies To Win Ruidoso Thoroughbred Championship

RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (September 5, 2011) – Everest Stables homebred Vamoose, sent off at 7-1, rallied in the final quarter mile and then held off 7-10 favorite Quiet Again to win the $50,000 Ruidoso Downs Thoroughbred Championship on Monday afternoon at the New Mexico track.

Enrique Portillo Gomez rode Vamoose over the one-and-one-sixteenth mile in 1:45.40.
The Henry Dominguez-trained Vamoose won by two-and-one-quarter lengths over Quiet Again while it was more than eight lengths back to Sea Battle.

Vamoose, a four-year-old gelding by Petitionville, scored his first win from six tries this year with his Thoroughbred Championship score. His best previous effort was a third-place finish in the Inaugural Handicap at SunRay Park and he came into the Thoroughbred Championship after a sixth-place finish in the San Juan County Commissioners Stakes at SunRay Park.

Second-place finisher Quiet Again, owned by Paul Thomason, was defending his 2010 win in the Thoroughbred Championship and has two stakes wins this year. He won the Curribot Stakes at Sunland Park and the Free Spirit Stakes two starts ago at Ruidoso Downs.

Sea Battle stepped up in class for the Thoroughbred Championship after dominating an optional-claiming race by nearly 10 lengths at Ruidoso Downs.
