Take The
Mountain Sets NTR In First Career 550-Yard Start
RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (August 5, 2010) – Take The Mountain not only won his
first career start over 550 yards at Ruidoso Downs on Thursday, he established a
new track record with a :26.340 time over a sealed-fast track.
The Jim Boss-trained Take The Mountain, ridden by Jacky Martin, erased the
previous track record of :26.416 set by Heza Wicked Man in 2002. He won the
fourth race by one length over Streakish.
Take The Mountain was sent off at nearly 6-1 odds in the optional-claiming race
after two close second place finishes in conditioned allowance race. The Panther
Mountain son was second by a neck at 400 yards on May 21 at SunRay Park and then
second by a head over 350 yards at Ruidoso Downs on June 20.
The track-record setting victory was Take The Mountain’s second win from nine
career starts. He qualified for the 2009 Bayer Legend New Mexico Derby Challenge
at Ruidoso Downs and finished in seventh place.
