Ruidoso's Big Racing Week Approaches

RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (August 11, 2011) – Thursday marks the daylong trials to the Grade 1, $2.4-million All American Futurity, North America’s richest two-year-old race, are held. The post time will be announced when entries for the All American Futurity trials are drawn on Saturday. Rainbow Futurity winner Feature Mr Bojangles and Heritage Place Futurity winner High Rate Of Return could headline the trials.

On Friday, the post time returns to the usual 1 p.m. and the trials will be held to the Grade 1, $1.3-million (est.) All American Derby, the year’s richest quarter horse racing for three-year-old and older quarter horses. The prospects for those trials include Rainbow Derby winner Cold Cash 123, Ruidoso Derby winner Llano Teller and 2010 champion two-year-old gelding American Runaway.

On Friday and Saturday nights, New Mexico-bred racing prospects will be offered at auction in the sales pavilion east of the Ruidoso Downs track and behind the Hubbard Museum. The public is invited and the sale begins after the day’s racing concludes.

Jay and Paulette Taylor’s Karen’s Miracle faces female thoroughbred rivals over four-and-one-half furlongs in Sunday’s feature.

The Greg Green-trained filly has been facing stiffer competition and found a competitive level in her latest race when she pushed the pace and finished third.

Juan Ochoa was aboard for her latest race and again has the mount with the seventh post position.
