Mostly Dust Wires FieldTo Take Norgor Derby at Ruidoso

RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (June 18, 2011) – Larry and Harry Teague’s Mostly Dust took the lead out of the gate and then repelled two challenges to get the mild upset win in the $40,000 Norgor Derby on Saturday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

The Larry Gamez-ridden Mostly Dust, sent off at 7-1 odds, took on his first challenger on the turn when Suguarintheevening pulled alongside and then faded throughout the stretch run. Favored Shigeo then made a rally from near the rear of the seven-horse field and came up one-half length short at the wire.

Mi Domscat ralled for third, two lengths behind Shigeo.

A gelded son of Dry Gulch from the Weston Martin stable, Mostly Dust covered the six furlongs in 1:11.64 for his third win from seven starts and his first stakes victory. He prepared for the Norgor Derby with a gate-to-wire win in a $33,000 Sunland Park allowance race on April 19.

Runner-up Shigeo earned favoritism after winning two of his previous four starts with a second-place run in the KHEY Sprint Handicap at Sunland Park.
