Iplaytricks Gets Through On Rail, Takes Aspen Cup at Ruidoso Downs

RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (August 13, 2011) – Mike Stinson and Joe Allen’s Iplaytricks benefitted from a heady ride by jockey Carlos Madeira to successfully move out of the New Mexico-bred division and handle open three-year-old fillies in the $40,000 Aspen Cup at Ruidoso Downs on Saturday afternoon.

Iplaytricks and Madeira stalked frontrunners Lady For A Day and Cassy Sue until a hole opened up along the rail coming off the turn of the six-furlong stakes. Madeira gunned Iplaytricks into the opening and she responded with a surge that resulted in the one-and-one-half length victory. She was timed in 1:13.29 for her first win since taking the $100,000 New Mexico Breeders Oaks in March at Sunland Park.

Squiggle, the even-money favorite, rallied for second while Lady For A Day finished third in the field of nine fillies.
The Joel Marr-trained Iplaytricks, sent off at 6-1 odds, made her first start against open company in the Aspen Cup after scoring three wins in eight previous starts against New Mexico-bred female rivals. She won a maiden race and a conditioned allowance race before becoming a stakes winner in the New Mexico Breeders Oaks.

The winner’s share of $24,000 pushed her career earnings to $122,040.

The David Wolochuck-owned and -trained Squiggle earned her favoritism after finishing second in the $50,000 Budweiser Allowance in her previous start.
