Denver Pass Prevails In Rainbow Juvenile Overnight

RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (July 25, 2011) – Weetona Stanley and William Smith’s homebred Denver Pass prevailed at the wire over a late-charging Escort West to win the $20,000 Rainbow Juvenile Overnight Stakes on Monday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

The Rainbow Juvenile Overnight Stakes is for two-year-olds who raced in the Rainbow Futurity trials on July 8, but did not run fast enough time to qualify for the Grade 1, $700,000 Rainbow Futurity that was held on Sunday afternoon.

Ridden by Jacky Martin, who won the Rainbow Futurity on Feature Mr Bojangles, Denver Pass was timed in :19.899 to get the head win over Escort West. It was another three quarters of a length back to third-place finisher Lotta Love For Robyn.

A son of Corona Cartel and Heritage Place Futurity winner First Carolina, Denver Pass won his maiden in his first start at Remington Park and then finished third in a deep Rainbow Futurity trial in his Ruidoso Downs Debut. He finished behind Rainbow Futurity qualifiers Texas Rockstar and YM Quick in that trial.

Denver Pass, the 5-2 favorite in the Juvenile, is eligible to start in the trials to the Grade 1, $2.4-million All American Futurity. Those 440-yard trials will be held on Thursday, August 18 – the only Thursday racing program this summer at Ruidoso Downs.

The All American Futurity on Labor Day, closing day of the summer season, is North America’s richest race for two-year-olds regardless of breed.
