2011 Grade 1 Futurities at Ruidoso Downs Show Double-Digit Growth Over Last Year

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM - April 11, 2011 – This summer’s renewals of the Ruidoso, Rainbow and All American Futurities, which comprise the All American Triple Crown, each show strong double-digit growth over comparable figures last year.

Through the March 15 sustaining payment, the Grade 1, $2.4 million (est.) All American Futurity has 689 eligible 2-year olds (up 17.18%), the Grade 1, $700,000 Rainbow Futurity has 462 eligible juveniles (up 17.26%) and the Grade 1, $500,000 Ruidoso Futurity has 357 eligible hopefuls (up 13.7%).

The Ruidoso Futurity will be held on June 12, the Rainbow Futurity on July 24 and the All American Futurity is always contested on Labor Day, closing day of the summer season. The All American Futurity is the world’s richest quarter horse race and the 2011 winner is guaranteed and all-time record $1.2 million check.

There is one more sustaining payment due on April 15 for each of the 2011 futurities before the trial-entry payment. The April 15 payment for the Ruidoso and Rainbow futurities is $600 while the All American Futurity sustaining payment is $1,000.

Through the March 15 payment for yearlings eligible for the 2012 renewals of the All American Triple Crown futurities, figures are virtually even over last year while showing a marked increase over the past five runnings. There are 1,288 yearlings eligible for the 2012 futurities compared to 1,289 eligible last year for this year’s futurities. There were 1,037 yearlings eligible to 2008 runnings of the All American Triple Crown futurities through the same payment.

The next payment of $400 is due on June 15 for yearlings eligible to the 2012 All American Triple Crown. Yearlings may be supplemented to the 2012 All American Triple for $1,800 by June 15.

The Ruidoso Downs summer racing season starts on May 27 with the daylong trials to the Ruidoso Futurity. Racing will be conducted on a Friday through Monday schedule.
