Trainer William Harris narrowly misses sweep at Prairie Meadows' Challenge

Altoona, IA - August 27, 2010 - Two of three wasn’t bad at all for trainer William Harris in Friday’s Challenge races at Prairie Meadows.

Harris’ Stone E Motion was nipped by a head by Lefty Ray in the $25,110 Prairie Meadows Distance Challenge for 870-yard horses.

But then he sent out Sc Captivator to win the $22,500 Starter Allowance Challenge for horses that had been in claiming races. And then A Plain Brown Wrapper scored his third straight overwhelming victory, taking the $45,990 Juvenile Challenge for 2-year-olds by 2 3/4 lengths.

“We ran three good races,” Harris said. “We got beat on the 870 race, but the most important thing was to get the other two to win tonight so they’d get qualified for the finals in New Orleans. The other one (Stone E Motion) was already qualified, so it was a good night.”

After finishing fourth in his first start, A Plain Brown Wrapper has won his last three by a combined 6 3/4 lengths.

“His first race, he lost his footing bad in a trial got back up, and just missed qualifying for the finals,” Harris said. “For a first outing, that’s a lot to ask of him. He’s a nice colt. I think he’s for real.”

Also on Friday, Ru A Quick Cat made his first victory a rich one, winning the $61,288 Iowa Stallion Quarter Horse Futurity by three-fourths of a length from Wrs Kool Jess.

RU A Quick Cat, who earned an $26,649 winner’s share, had been fifth and fourth in her first two career starts.
