Joe
Crispin wins seven, ties his own record for wins on a card
Portland, OR- November 17, 2010 - Joe Crispin equaled his record for wins on a
single card as he booted home seven winners on a nine race card at Portland
Meadows, including winning the last six races of the day. Crispin has hit the
seven win mark three times now in his career at Portland Meadows, the last time
he accomplished the feat in 2007.
Crispin started out the day with a win aboard odds on favorite Decatur Island
in the opener for leading trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. Joe then proceeded to
score impressively in race four aboard Classy Prize who was the second choice in
that race for trainer Charlie Essex. Crispin was once again on board a
Hollendorfer runner in race 5 as Karakot cruised to a facile win.
Race 6 was the $15,000 Dennis Dodge Memorial Stakes and Crispin and Hollendorfer
were up to their old tricks again, as odds on favorite El Gaucho shipped up from
Golden Gate Fields to capture the five and one half furlong stakes race for two
year olds. El Gaucho settled just off the early pace which was solid, swept up
turning for home and held sway throughout the stretch to win by open lengths.
Crispin then won the seventh aboard Tough Gold for trainer Neil Knapp, but it
was his win aboard Bijou Barrister in the Mt. Hood Handicap that may have been
the most impressive on the card. Sent off as the 8/5 favorite, Bijou Barrister
settled far back early on, but started to make his move pretty early on the
backstretch. Turning for home Bijou Barrister engaged the early pace setter
Carry on John and quickly disposed of that rival, opening up throughout the lane
and winning by five and one half lengths. Crispin closed out his day by guiding
Trail Beyond to a rail skimming win in the finale, to end his days with the
historic seven wins.
News and Notes……..Joe Crispin (7), Mark Anderson (1), and Javier Matias (1)
accounted for all the riding wins on the card. Those three along with Troy
Stillwell will make up Team Portland Meadows who’ll compete against Joel
Rosario, Joe Talamo, David Flores, and Martin Pedroza of Team Southern
California in the XpressBet Jockey Challenge at Portland Meadows on Monday
November 29th.
