Ridden by Jon Court, Amie’s Dini was the
first out of the gate when Now I Know
stumbled slightly, but quickly settled into
second as the1-to-2 favorite recovered to
gain the advantage through splits of :23 2/5
and :47 3/5 for the first half mile. The
winner made her move coming around the final
turn and once clear of Now I Know she
continued to extend her margin, winning by 1
¾ lengths in 1:38 3/5 for one mile over a
fast track.
Lulu Wong closed from last to get third and was followed by first time starter Colonial Empress, Devious Intent and Soonerette. “I told Jon, you’re such a good tactician and I’m leaving a lot of this to you, but just make sure, when you do challenge her, you blow by her,” said winning trainer Ron Moquett. “Don’t go head-in-head. Don’t test her and find out how much guts she has. Blow by her. I remember training Asher and she was that type of filly. If a horse got alongside her, she would dig back in and give you more. I didn’t want to find that out about Now I Know today.” Amie’s Dini, a 3-year-old Kentucky bred daughter of Bandini out of the Cherokee Run mare Run Kate Run, improved her record to 3 wins in five starts and has now earned $98,896 for owners Mike Walker and Lou Sutterfield. She returned $8.40, $3.20 and $2.40 as the 3-1 second choice. The next race in the series for 3-year-old fillies heading to the $300,000 Fantasy Stakes (G2) April 11 is the $125,000 Honeybee Stakes (G3) March 10 and is likely to be the next start for the top two finishers. Live racing resumes Sunday with a 1:30 first post. | ||
