Promising New Look Shines In Maiden Trials
Cypress, CA – Feb. 4, 2012 - Mimi Well’s New Look reinforced the
thought that a little vacation can help with all of us by racing to
the fastest qualifying time to the $151,750 Los Alamitos Maiden
Stakes on Saturday night at Los Alamitos.
The Maiden Stakes is restricted to three-year-olds who were maidens
as of December 1, 2011.
New Look fit those conditions very well. The Walk Thru Fire gelding
from the Dan Francisco barn was laid off offer finishing fifth in
the John Deere Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge back in August,
concluding his first five starts that were highlighted by a
second-place run and three third-place finishes.
After a fall rest, New Look didn’t start until after the deadline
for qualifying for the Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes. During that
December 17 out he impressed with a three-quarter-length victory and
his time of :15.396 showed he was on track for the Maiden Stakes
trials.
In the third of seven trials, he drew away from his rivals from the
outside post position to as the 1-2 favorite. He was timed in
:17.500 under jockey Rodrigo Aceves while runner-up Kool Million
posted the second-fastest qualifying time of :17.602.
Ed Allred’s homebred Kool Million figures to improve for trainer
Jose Antonio Flores with the second-place trial finish in his second
career start. The Bono Jazz gelding won his maiden at first asking
on December 30 with a three-quarter length score in :15.680 for the
300 yards.
