Kobe Scores In Holiday Handicap
Cypress, CA Jan. 1, 2012 - Mark and Mary Parsons’ homebred Kobe
scored his first stakes win in the final strides by prevailing in
the $20,000 Holiday Handicap at Los Alamitos on Sunday night.
The Paul Jones-trained Kobe showed promise as a juvenile last year
while making only three starts and could develop into a dangerous
stakes horse this year. He won his Kindergarten trial as the 3-2
favorite over PCQHRA Breeders Futurity winner Ima Chickie Two and
then was off for six months before returning to win an allowance
race as the 11-10 favorite over Rainbow Futurity finalist Hez Our
Secret.
Kobe’s win in the Holiday Handicap was the cap of a milestone night
for his jockey Ramon Sanchez. Earlier in the evening he scored his
1,500th career win at Los Alamito and then won two more races,
capped by the Holiday Handicap, on Sunday night.
A son of Mr Eye Opener, Kobe raced the 350 yards in :17.640 for his
third win from four starts.
Ed Allred’s Check My Thoughts was second by one-half length over Eye
For Fdd.
The James Glenn-trained Check My Thoughts won the Golden State
Juvenile in his previous out. He also won the California Breeders
Freshman Stakes and was third in the Ed Burke Juvenile.
Deleyco Race Team’s Eye For Fdd, trained by Jose Antonio Flores, has
a maiden win, two seconds and a third from six starts.
