AVITAR IS BIG WINNER ON SUNDAY NIGHT AT LOS ALAMITOS
CYPRESS, CA. - MARCH 7, 2010 - And the winner is...Avitar.
True, Avatar, the blockbuster movie, did not win the Oscar for best motion
picture after all during the Academy Awards held on Sunday night, but the movie
did take home three Oscars in other categories. And an hour before the best
picture winner was announced on Sunday night, horseplayers that enjoy playing
hunch bets, probably cashed in on the 4-year-old gelding Avitar.
A son of Check Him Out, Avitar was flying high on Quarter Horse racing's
Pandora, better known as Los Alamitos Race Course, en route to winning the
seventh race at 300 yards. Track announcer Ed Burgart even described Avitar's
race as an Academy Award winning performance, as the Blane Schvaneveldt and
Brayden Figueroa-owned sprinter won by a half-length. Avatar, the movie, was
over three hours long. It took Avitar, the horse, a fraction of that to post his
masterpiece performance. Avitar covered the 300 yards in a speedy :15.265 while
carrying Schvaneveldt's blue and while silks of all-time leading trainer. And by
the way, there's no truth to the rumor that TVG will be showing Avitar's next
race in 3-D. Zacharie Kelsey piloted the Blane Schvanevelt and John Andreini-bred
runner.
