THRILLS IN GRADE 1 $59,700 LONE STAR PARK PAINT & APPALOOSA FUTURITY
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (November 4, 2011) – Bill Price’s Bp Cartels Paint proved
best in a thrilling stretch run to win the Grade 1 $59,700 Lone Star Park Paint
& Appaloosa Futurity Friday at Lone Star Park.
Trained by Eddie Willis and ridden by David Pinon, the sorrel son of Cartel
Success emerged victorious in a three-horse photo finish with a time of 17.547
for 350 yards, earning a speed index of 97. The $25,672 winner’s share of the
purse boosted the gelding’s earnings to $90,202 and improved his record to five
wins from 10 starts.
Sen Tosa finished a head back in second, with Crm Livewire another head back in
third. Favorite Captain Bucko finished fourth after a slow start. Runaway Argus,
Rawhide Legend, Two Timin Trixie, Mambo Quick Step and General Gordiz rounded
out the order of finish.
Dismissed at odds of 15-1, Bp Cartels Paint returned $33.60, $12.20, $8.00. Sen
Tosa paid $5.80, $4.20, and Crm Livewire paid $9.80 for the show.
PF CHIEF RUNNIN BEAR DOESN’T DISAPPOINT IN $20,000-GUARANTEED OLYMPIA JOE
PAINT & APPALOOSA HANDICAP
S. Koltiska and L. & B. Bettinger’s Pf Chief Runnin Bear cruised to victory as
the heavy favorite to win the $20,000-Guaranteed Olympia Joe Paint & Appaloosa
Handicap at Lone Star Park Friday night.
Trained by Arturo Carrillo and ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo, the brown
Oklahoma-bred gelding by Grand Point powered down the stretch, stopping the
teletimer at 19.698 for the 400 yard distance to earn a speed index of 94. The
$12,000 winner’s share of the purse pushed Pf Chief Runnin Bear’s earnings to
$143,373 in what was his ninth win in 20 starts.
Dos Jakes finished second, a nose in front of Flashy Dos. Moon Bully, San Mateo
Chick and Awesome Judy completed the order of finish.
Pf Chief Runnin Bear paid $2.80, $3.00 and $2.10. Dos Jakes returned $8.00,
$3.40, and Flash Dos paid $2.80 to show.
Lone Star Park’s2011 Fall Meeting of Champions will be held from Sept. 16 to
Nov. 12. After opening weekend Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16-17, racing will be
conducted every Thursday through Saturday night. First race post time for all
