Slinkys Fortune Wins With Wide Trip
BOSSIER CITY, LA – Feb. 11, 2012 - The always-dangerous Slinkys
Fortune had a wide trip throughout the $40,000 Magnolia Stakes over
870 yards on Saturday at Louisiana Downs, however showed his class
in the final strides to score the game win.
The Henry Padgett-owned and –trained Slinkys Fortune prevailed in
the tight photo by a nose over Dr Drip. Louisiana Blue Step was
nearly two lengths back in third place among the field of seven
Louisiana-bred distance specialists.
Louisiana Blue Step took the lead on the turn and held his advantage
until deep stretch before being overtaken by Slinkys Fortune and Dr
Drip. Those two battled to the wire with Slinkys Fortune narrowly
scoring his 11th win in his 26th start.
A six-year-old gelded son of Game Patriot, Slinkys Fortune scored
his second stakes win over three starts in the last two months. Back
in December he took the 870-yard Au Revoir Stakes at Evangeline
Downs and then was second in the Marathon Stakes at Louisiana Downs.
The Anthony Arey-owned and –trained Dr Drip, an eight-year-old son
of First To Shine, got the inside trip in the Magnolia Stakes and
nearly scored the upset win at 9-1 odds. The Jerry Yoakum-ridden
gelding was also second to Slinkys Fortune in the Au Revoir Stakes.
