Mr T Perry Surges For Montgomery Win;
Eyeontheline took control of the Marathon Stakes
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Jan. 21, 2012 - Ana Alvidrez’s Mr T Perry, who
was winning for a $10,000 claiming tag in November, raced to his
third-straight win in the $40,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes for
Louisiana-bred three-year-olds at Louisiana Downs on Saturday
afternoon.
A race earlier on the card, Eyeontheline won the $20,000 Marathon
Stakes over 870 yards as the 9-5 favorite.
The Miguel Rodrigez-trained Mr T Perry showed he could be a mainstay
in his Louisiana-bred stakes division with the game Billy Montgomery
neck win in :17.777 for the 350 yards. The gelding was slightly
behind his rivals at the start, but unleashed a consistent drive
under J.R. Ramirez to score his third-straight win.
A gelded son of First Prize Perry, Mr T Perry started his winning
streak at the conditioned $10,000-claiming level when he won at 330
yards back in November. He followed with a neck victory against
state-bred allowance company in a sharp :17.410 for 350 yards.
Yadira Alvarado’s runner-up Intriguing Jess Blue won the LQHBA
Invitational two starts ago and then was a close second behind Mr T
Perry as the 5-2 favorite in that December 19 allowance race.
Los Primitos’ Country Talker was a competitive third in the Billy
Montgomery and now has three wins from six starts and was third in
the Evangeline Downs Futurity.
Sunset Racing Stables’ Eyeontheline took control of the Marathon
Stakes at the start and showed why he was the strong favorite by
rolling to the one-length win in :46.229.
Danny Lavergne was aboard Eyeontheline for his third win from four
starts with his sole setback during that span a very close
second-place finish.
Slinky Fortune, the 19-10 second choice, was second by nearly two
lengths over Dirty Boy Friend.
A 4-year-old gelding by Eye Yin You, Eyeontheline made his stakes
debut in the Marathon after a rapid rise through the class ranks.
Back in October, the Kenneth Roberts-trained gelding won for a
$5,000 claiming tag and he came into the Marathon after impressing
with a nearly four-length win in the $15,000 allowance race at 870
yards.
The Henry Padgett-owned and -trained Slinkys Fortune was highly
regarded in the Marathon after posting two stakes wins in his
previous three starts. He rallied from a stalking position to take
the Au Revior Stakes in his previous out.
