STRONG PERFORMANCE BY MAIDEN SOPHISICATED SNOW IN SOUTH FLORIDA QH DERBY
HIALEAH. FL. (January 31, 2010) – Enjoying the best run of his racing career, Sophisticated Snow posted his first win of his racing career on Sunday afternoon, defeating ten rivals in the $143,650 Florida Quarter Horse Derby at Hialeah Park.
Owned by Zeferino T. Garcia, and trained by Adrian Soto Sophisticated Snow bore down on the leaders Shakem Blue and Definatly Maybe to cross the wire a neck in front of the field of ten.
Favorite Gallant Corona, bumped at the start entered the stretch way back in eighth made a valiant effort regaining ground fast only to finish in fourth position.
Piloted by jockey Rodrigo Vallejo, Sophisticated Snow covered the 440 yard time was :21.391 over the fast track scoring a speed index of 102.
Sophisticated Snow paid $40.40 to win, $7.60 to place and $4.40 to show. Shakem Blue returned $11.00 to place and $8.40 to show. Definatly Maybe paid $5.20 to show.
A Texas-bred son of This Snow Is Royal, from the Vital Sign mare Sophisticated Sign, Sophisticated Snow won for the first time in his 5-race career, pushing his lifetime total to $69,280.
