One Tough Dude Rallies To Win Sunshine State Stakes at Hialeah Park

 

           HIALEAH, FL. (January 31, 2010) — Ramon Gallegos’ One Tough Dude made a last ditch effort, surging at the wire to win the $27,500 Sunshine State Stakes over 220 yards on Sunday afternoon at Hialeah Park.

 

           Jockey Larry Payne drove the four-year-old gelding down the stretch to mount his winning bid by a neck. Payne and One Tough Dude after being bumped at the start fought to make up ground down the stretch turning in a bullet run at the wire finishing with a speed index of 104. Corona for Jolie solid effort out-nodded Casanova Corona for the place.

 

           Trained by legendary trainer Paul Jones, One Tough Dude raced the 220 yards in :11.752 for his 5th career win in his 11th start. One Tough Dude by Corona Cartel out of Start the Commotion, by First Down Dash was bred in Oklahoma by E.D. Calvert and owned by Ramon D. Gallegos.

 

           One Tough Dude paid $4.00, $3.60, $2.60, Corona for Jolie paid $10.60 and $4.60 while Casanova Corona paid $3.80 for show.
