Fast Start Helps Ivory Rain in Tallahassee Stakes

Hialeah, FL. – Jan. 29, 2012 - A quick start from post 8 helped Ivory Rain score a neck victory in Sunday's $22,375 Tallahassee Stakes for 3-year-olds at Hialeah Park.

Saddled by Eddy Ferreiro and ridden by Miguel Martinez for owner Aliuska Gonzalez, Ivory Rain went 250 yards in :13.255 while earning a 95 speed index and his first stakes win. The winner's share of the purse increased the bay gelding's earnings to $28,477.

Ivory Rain was bred in Kentucky by Keith Renfro. The gelding's sire, Ivory James, is a winning 8-year-old son of Corona Cartel who ran second in First Carolina's 2006 Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park. A full brother to Grade 1 winner PYC Paint Your Wagon, Ivory James is owned by Bobby D. Cox and Sylvia Shaw Pitman, and he stands for a $4,000 fee at Royal Vista Ranch at Wayne, Oklahoma.

Ivory Rain's dam, Drifting Shawne Bug, is a winning daughter of the Lady Bug's Moon stallion Shawne Bug who has foaled three winners from four starters. The gelding's half brother, Hearthstone Bay, ran third in Vrrroom's 2009 Harrah's Entertainment Derby at Louisiana Downs.

Ivory Rain was claimed by his current connections for $5,000 from Renfro on November 3 at Evangeline Downs. A winner of two of his eight outs, Ivory Rain was coming off of a fourth-place finish in the 250-yard, $22,625 Biscayne Stakes at Hialeah on January 8.

Conquistadorable B ran second and was followed by 3-2 favorite Cmon Man, Razmajazz, PT First La Jolla, Hez Tricky Too, Rapid Ivory, Patti Corona Today, and Bankrupt City.

Conquistadorable B is a brown daughter of Valiant Hero who was claimed out of her last race for $7,500 by owner and trainer David Eastwood. Conquistadorable B has won one of four starts and has banked $13,927.

A homebred colt by Corona Cartel out of '06 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Ima Ramblin Girl, Cmon Man has earned $19,398 from seven races for his owners, Walt and Pat Fletcher of Lakin, Kansas. Cmon Man has won two races, including a 250-yard non-winners-of-two allowance sprint at Hialeah on January 8.
