Lady Of Fifty Goes Wire-To-Wire in California Oaks

Berkeley, Ca – Jan. 21, 2012 - By Sent to post as the 6-5 favorite in the field of six, Lady Of Fifty responded with a wire-to-wire 3 1/4-length victory in the Saturday's $100,000 California Oaks for 3-year-old fillies at Golden Gate Fields.

Lady Of Fifty covered her 1 1/16-mile trip in 1:46.04 under jockey Russell Baze, as she set fractions of :24.37, :49.81, and 1:14.87. The gray or roan filly races for George Todaro and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

“She's a big, long-striding filly, and I knew she was just loping along and setting an easy pace,” said Baze, who rode four winners from seven mounts on Saturday's nine-race program. “By the time we got to the half-mile pole, I wasn't worried about anybody catching us because I still had a lot of horse left.”

Lady Of Fifty was bred in Kentucky by Cloverleaf Farms II Inc. The filly is the first stakes winner from 43 starters sired by After Market, a Grade 1-winning 9-year-old son of Storm Cat whose starters have earned more than $608,000. After Market stands for a $7,500 fee at Lane's End at Versailles, Kentucky.

Lady Of Fifty's dam, K.D.'s Shady Lady, is a winning 10-year-old daughter of Maria's Mon who ran second in the 2004 Tempted Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct. The mare has produced

Lady Of Fifty's second dam, the winning Shawklit Won mare Annie's Apple, ran third in the 1999 Spinning World Stakes at Keeneland.

A $40,000 buy at the 2010 Keeneland Association September Yearling Sale, Lady Of Fifty has banked $154,170 from five races, and her four wins include last year's $75,260 Corte Madera Stakes and $53,610 Golden Gate Debutante Stakes. The filly broke her maiden in her July 27 career debut during the Sonoma County Fair meet at Santa Rosa.

“This is really a nice filly,” said Baze. “You just have to get after her in the lane to keep her mind on business, but she's got a lot of talent. The way she travels, she just eats up the ground. It's just a question of how good she's going to get.”

Sweet Nothings ran second and was followed by Run The Blues Away, La Chispa, Distant Image, and Your Special Day.

Sweet Nothings is a dark bay filly by Street Cry (IRE) who has won one of eight races and has earned $61,610 for owners Halo Farms and Jerry Hollendorfer. A $60,000 purchase at last year's Ocala Breeders' Sales Company Selected Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, Sweet Nothings was coming off of a second-place finish to Lady Of Fifty in the Corte Madera Stakes.

Run The Blues Away is a homebred dark bay daughter of the Storm Cat stallion Mr. Sekiguchi racing for Kelly Hammargren. The filly has won one of six outs and has banked $42,480.
