OKLAHOMA BANDIDO WINS SPEEDHORSE GOLD AND SILVER CUP DERBY
July 24, 2010 - Favorite Oklahoma Bandido crossed the wire first in the
$101,910 Speedhorse Gold and Silver Cup Derby (RG3) at Fair Meadows.
The sorrel gelding by Take Off Jess broke second, but quickly made his way to
the lead. Running the 350 yards in :17.388 on a fast track, he wouldn't be
denied the win. Runner up Freddysonahotstreak gave a big effort, but lost by a
neck at the wire.
Kenny Muntz was Oklahoma Bandido's jockey, and Luis Villafranco trains the
gelding. He has now won four of 15 starts, and tonight's win is his second in a
stakes race. He took home $38,726 from the win, bringing his total to $142,879.
Oklahoma Bandido is a homebred racing for Ellen Kennedy of Owasso, Oklahoma. He
is out of the Takin On The Cash mare Pure Oklahoma, and he is a half brother to
stakes winner Adios My Amigos by Make It Anywhere.
The Mr Jess Perry stallion Take Off Jess has sired 23 winners from 55 starters.
His get have earned a total of $770,293, and he is owned by Jimmy Dean Harrel of
Weatherford, Oklahoma. Oklahoma Bandido is the sorrel stallion's all-time
leading money earner.

FIRST PAINTED SIGN WINS SPEEDHORSE GOLD AND SILVER CUP FUTURITY
July 24, 2010 - Oklahoma Futurity (G2) winner First Painted Sign won her second
stakes race at the $394,340 Speedhorse Gold and Silver Cup Futurity (RG1) at
Fair Meadows.
The bay filly by PYC Paint Your Wagon has won four of five starts and earned a
total of $277,217 so far in her career - $149,849 of that is from this win. She
also ran as the favorite in the Speedhorse futurity.
Ricky Ramirez was aboard for the winning run, and First Painted Sign bobbled at
the break, then dueled and proved best with an impressive win. The filly is
trained by Stacey Capps, and she crossed the wire to the 350-yard race with a
time of :17.306. Runner up Send Me Candy fought gamely and gaveway grudgingly,
but in the end was outfinished by a neck.
Sara Leann Morgan of Edmond, Oklahoma, owns the filly, and the two-time stakes
winner was bred by Jill Hixer, also of Edmond. She is out of the Vital Sign mare
Stylish Sign. The brown mare, owned by The Mixer Ranch of Edmond, has produced
four winners from six starters that have so far earned $461,416. First Painted
Sign is the mare's first stakes winner and all-time leading money earner.
Multiple-Grade 1 winner PYC Paint Your Wagon has produced 23 winners from 70
starters and two stakes winners. His get have earned $1,059,149. On the track,
the brown stallion by Coronal Cartel won seven of 16 starts - 4 of which were
stakes races. His wins include the 2005 Texas Classic Futurity (G1), 2006
Heritage Place Derby (G1) and 2006 Texas Classic Derby (G1). Michael and Donalda
Pohl of Montgomery, Texas, own the stallion.
