Shakopee, MN - Jan. 27, 2011 - Canterbury Park’s American Quarter Horse stakes schedule was announced today and will feature the $20,000 added Northlands Futurity (G3) on July 2. Canterbury’s 62-day mixed meet begins Friday, May 20 and concludes Monday, Sept. 5.

Last year the number of quarter horse races increased by 22% compared to the prior season and as a result handle increased both on-track and out-of-state. “We expect this meet to be comparable to last year,” Canterbury President Randy Sampson said. “Quarter Horse racing is an important part of our racing schedule and the quality here makes for competitive races.”

The 350-yard Northlands Futurity has long been a fixture on the suburban Minneapolis racetrack’s schedule, allowing highly regarded 2-year-olds to compete for the largest purse of the summer. The 2002 winner, Capones Vault, went on to win the Texas Classic Futurity (G1), then the richest race in Texas’ history with a $1 million purse.

Stall applications, due April 1, will be available February 21, the same day the first condition book will be online at www.canterburypark.com .
