Sunland Park Rule Changes Approved -

Updated: Thursday, May 27, On May 19, the New Mexico Racing Commission approved several key rule changes that were advocated by Sunland Park as part of its application to the National Thoroughbred Racing Association Safety and Integrity Alliance for accreditation.
 


300-, 330- AND 400-YARD WORLD RECORDS VERIFIED - April 28, 2010 - Four world records – one at 300 yards, two at 330 yards and one at 400 yards – have been declared official by the American Quarter Horse Association. All four were set at Sunland Park in New Mexico.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

All horses entering Sunland Park including pony horses must have a negative Equine Piroplasmosis test. Horses arriving from out of state or out of the area will be allowed to obtain a test and be cleared on a pending test. Test information will be supplied by the attending veterinarian. At this time the test is for Babesia equi (Theileria equi).

  Toe Grab Rules:  
  Quarter Horses - Toe grabs with a height greater than four millimeters worn on the front shoes are prohibited while racing or training.
Thoroughbreds - Toe grabs with a height greater than two millimeters worn on the front shoes are prohibited while racing or training. Post race testing will be done for anabolic steroids at Zia Park and continuing at Sunland Park starting October 1, 2008. From October 1-December 31, 2008 there will be a grace period for penalties. Any horse that tests above the accepted level for anabolic steroids during this grace period will result in the owner and trainer of that horse being notified. Penalty phases will be finalized and go into effect in January 2009.
