RETAMA PARK SWITCHES TO STRAIGHT THOROUGHBREDS FOR NEXT 7 WEEKENDS
Retama Park’s straight Thoroughbred meet opened last night for a run of 21 days over the next seven weekends. On opening night there were 63 Thoroughbreds entered in eight races with a full field of Arabians carded as the first race of the meet.

Racing on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday schedule with first post at 6:45pm, Retama’s meet highpoints will be Saturday, September 24, with the running of the two $100,000 divisions of the second legs in the Texas Stallion Stakes Series, and closing night on Saturday, October 15, with the renewals of the track’s signature races, the M2Technology La Senorita and the El Joven, both $75,000 stakes.

LONE STAR OWNERSHIP CHANGE, LAREDO DOWNS RELOCATION ON TRC AGENDA
The Texas Racing Commission meeting agenda for the rescheduled March 1 meeting in Austin at the Texas Animal Health Commission includes requests of Lone Star Park for consideration of a 100% ownership change to Global Gaming Solutions, a subsidiary of the Chickasaw Nation, and a request of the ownership of Laredo Downs to relocate from the Valley to the outskirts of Fort Worth.

Other items of considerable interest include the application to change ownership and location of the Longhorn Downs license, now operating as Austin Jockey Club, the request of MAXXAM to change ownership of Sam Houston Race Park, Valley Race Park and Laredo Race Park with Penn National Gaming acquiring 50% interest, and the allocation of live racing dates to Manor Downs for the period from January 1, 2011, to August 31, 2012.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 10:30am.
