  Trainer Jim Fergason scores career victory number 1000 - Portland, OR - Jan. 19, 2012 - Jim Fergason has been a staple at Portland Meadows for over 4 decades now and on Wednesday he cemented his status as a legendary trainer in these parts, scoring his 1000th career victory. Fergason has been based at Portland Meadows since 1969 when he won his first race, a 99 to 1 Quarter Horse winner.
   
  Portland Meadows’ 2012-13 Racing License application approved, Summer Racing begins July 15th - Portland, OR - Dec. 22, 2011—Portland Meadows received Oregon Racing Commission approval of their application for the 2012-13 license that will usher in a new era at Portland Meadows.  Live Racing will commence on Sunday July 15, 2012 and will continue until closing day on Saturday December 8, 2012. 
   
  Portland Meadows live racing season kicks off on Monday, October 17th - Portland, OR - Oct. 11, 2011 - Portland Meadows will kick off our 65th season of live racing on Monday October 17th, 2011 and there is lots to be excited about, including the new $25,000 Ultimate Show Vivor Online Contest. Beginning on Monday October 24th, racing fans will go to the Show Vivor page at www.portlandmeadows.com and select their horse for that day’s races.
   
  TRAINER DARRELL FREY PASSES AWAY - CYPRESS, CA - Sept. 28, 2011 - Darrell Frey, who trained Meadow Creek Ranch’s Ettago Chickie to the title of champion2-year-old filly in 1980, passed away at the age of 78 in Salem, Oregon on Friday.
   
  Trainer Charlynn Taketa remembered by her fellow horsemen - Portland, OR— August 18, 2011 - Charlynn Taketa came back to training racehorses at Portland Meadows this past fall, and what turned out to be her final year at the track, certainly proved to be a memorable one.
   
  Trainer killed by a loose horse at Portland Meadows - August 12, 2011 - A horse trainer was killed Thursday morning after being kicked by a loose horse at Portland Meadows.
   
  Portland Meadows releases 2011-2012 Live Racing schedule - Portland, OR— July 12, 2011 - Portland Meadows, Oregon’s largest horse racing track has released its 2011-2012Live Racing schedule. Live Racing will follow a similar format kicking off with Opening Day on Monday October 17, 2011 racing until Closing Day on Wednesday March 14, 2012.
   
  Stronach Group buys racing assets formerly held by MI Developments - AURORA, Ont. - July 1, 2011 - The Stronach Group has bought several racetracks including racetracks in California, Oregon and Maryland.
   
  Portland Meadows employees have a banner day at the races - Portland, OR - March 30, 2011 - Portland Meadows employees Marilyn Hughes, Mike Robbins and Anita Dawson all have a smile on their face when working at their respective positions at Portland Meadows. Hughes is the hostess in the Portland Meadows Turf Club, Robbins tends the popular paddock bar, and Dawson works at the Finish Line Café snack counter. But all three had bigger smiles on their faces on Wednesday as they all owned winning Thoroughbreds on the race track this afternoon.
   
  Portland Meadows meeting extended by three days - Portland, OR - March 18, 2011 - Portland Meadows has extended their current 2010-2011 racing season by three racing days. Live Racing has been added on Monday April 4th, Tuesday April 5th and Wednesday April 6th. First post time will be the traditional 12:40pm PST. The season was originally scheduled to culminate on Wednesday March 30th.

Portland Meadows will continue to offer their Pick 4 at a takeout rate of 14% for the added days.

  TOBA New Owners Seminar at Portland Meadows on Wednesday March 23rd - Portland, OR- March 6, 2011 - The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association will be hosting a New Owners Seminar at Portland Meadows on Wednesday March 23rd. The event will offer up some great insights and information for folks who are looking at becoming owners of Thoroughbred race horses.
   
  Horse registration bill not able to get out of the gate - SALEM, OR - Feb. 23, 2011 - Local legislators say the bill that would charge to register horses won't get a hearing during this session.
   
  Oregon Horsemen Supporting NEHBPA - Feb. 8, 2011 - The horsemen in Oregon have joined the list of groups supporting the New England chapter of the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, although Suffolk Downs in Massachusetts remains open for simulcasting while the bitter dispute over a live racing contract for 2011 continues.
   
  XpressBet to spin off rebate shop for high-end players - Jan. 29, 2011 - Already an owner of racetracks, a tote company, and the XpressBet.com advance-deposit-wagering platform, Frank Stronach will launch a rebate shop for high-end horseplayers on Monday.
   
  Fee Proposed for Horse ownership in Oregon - Bend OR - Jan.25, 2011 - A proposed law in the Oregon Legislature, Senate Bill 262, is causing quite a stir among horsemen and horsewomen. The law, described as keeping unscrupulous horse traders at bay, imposes an initial $25 fee for any horse in the state for more than 30 days. Those who do not comply would be $500 for the first offense and $1,000 for each additional offense.
   
  The Winning Ticket moving to Saturdays - Portland, OR---The Winning Ticket radio show will be moving from Sundays at 10:30am to Saturdays at 10:30am on 95.5FM The Game starting on Saturday January 29, 2011. The show will now be a part of The Game’s Live and Local Saturdays which includes the popular show Gameday hosted by Chad Doing from 8am to 10:30am.

The Winning Ticket is Portland’s radio home for Thoroughbred racing action in the Rose City and the only place to hear about all the big races going on at Portland Meadows. Track Announcer Jason Beem hosts the 30 minute program that includes news and recaps, analysis from guests such as trainers, handicappers, jockeys, as well as national racing personalities.

  Portland Meadows changing first post time to 12:20pm for the week of January 3, 4, and 5th. - Portland Meadows will be changing their first post from 12:40pm to 12:20pm next week. The change in first post time will only be in effect for the racing days of Monday January 3rd, Tuesday January 4th and Wednesday January 5th, 2011. Portland Meadows is expected to return to their normal post time the following week.
   
  Portland Meadows XpressBet Jockey Challenge cancelled - Portland, OR. - Nov. 27, 2010 - The 2nd Annual XpressBet Jockey Challenge at Portland Meadows scheduled for Monday November 29th has been cancelled due to the Southern California riders refusing to make the trip up. The Jockey Challenge was slated to be a four race challenge series covering races 4 through 7 on the Portland Meadows Monday Card.
   
  Joe Crispin wins seven, ties his own record for wins on a card - Portland, OR- November 17, 2010 - Joe Crispin equaled his record for wins on a single card as he booted home seven winners on a nine race card at Portland Meadows, including winning the last six races of the day. Crispin has hit the seven win mark three times now in his career at Portland Meadows, the last time he accomplished the feat in 2007.

Additionally, Minor Racing offered to acquire Gulfstream Park, Palm Meadows and all other Florida-based racing assets for an additional $150 million.
