Remington Park announces annual Oklahoma Derby Week Festivities - OKLAHOMA CITY – Oct. 5, 2011 - Remington Park officials have released the lineup of festivities for its major weeklong event of Thoroughbred racing season. The 3rd annual Oklahoma Derby Week features the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame induction ceremony, a special open-to-the-community expo, Derby-style hat contest and running of the 2011 Thoroughbred season’s richest race. Oklahoma Derby Week kicks off Tuesday, Oct. 11 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 16.
 
Read the Footnotes to River Oaks in Oklahoma - Oct. 4, 2011 - Grade II winner Read the Footnotes has been purchased for stallion duty at River Oaks Farm near Sulphur, Okla. The fee for the 10-year-old son of Smoke Glacken will be announced later.
 
Oklahoma amends Employment Act, excludes jockey and trainers - Oct. 1, 2011 - The law clarifies that the term “employment” does not include riding services performed by a jockey and services performed by a trainer of race horses in preparation for and during an approved race meeting licensed by the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission.
 
First Prize Moon tops Heritage Place Yearling Sale, Average up 13% - Oklahoma City, OK - Sept. 18, 2011 - Heritage Place Sale Company concluded their three-day September yearling auction on Saturday afternoon with a 13% increase in average over last year's sale. read more
 
QH Hall of Fame trainer Ted Wells, Jr. dead at 87 - Sept. 18, 2011 - Noted Oklahoma horseman Ted Wells, Jr. passed away at his home near Pawhuska, Oklahoma on September 16, at the age of 87, his family announced. Wells was a member of the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and the Ruidoso Downs Hall of Fame.
 
Heritage Place Continues Increases - Sept. 17, 2011 - The average for day one and two, excluding repurchase, increased 21% to $14,424 from $11,881 in 2010. Repurchase for both sessions equals 16%. Gross sales for both sessions, excluding repurchases, equal $7,384,900.00 representing a 16% increase from 2010.
 
Heritage Place Day 1 off to strong start - Oklahoma City - Sept. 16, 2011 - The average price per horse for session one increased 34% to $14,646 versus $10,962 from 2010. Gross sales including repurchases increased 24% to $4,437,800. versus $3,573,600 from 2010. The number of repurchases equaled 17%. Total number of horses offered during session one decreased by 23 horses for a total of 303 versus 326 horses offered in 2010.
 
Remington Park Chaplaincy Regional Meeting - Sept. 16, 2011 - The RTCA Council at Remington Park is hosting a regional meeting on October 17th in Oklahoma City.
 
Louisiana Senator to Stand at Lazy E Ranch - GUTHRIE, OK—SEPT. 14, 2011—Louisiana Senator, who this year at Remington Park won two Graded Stakes and set a 400-yard track record, will enter stud in 2012 at Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Already an earner of $377,908, Louisiana Senator SI-111 will race the remainder of the current racing season before shipping to Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie.
 
Don't Get Mad to Zoellner’s Rockin’ Z Ranch in OK - Sept. 7, 2011 - Grade II winner Don't Get Mad, who finished fourth in the 2005 Kentucky Derby (gr. I), has been purchased by Dr. Robert Zoellner and Clark Brewster to stand in 2012 at Zoellner’s Rockin’ Z Ranch south of Tulsa, Okla., near Beggs. The 9-year-old son of Stephen Got Even will stand for $2,000.

McNaughton memorial service - OKLAHOMA CITY — Richard Brett McNaughton, 53, died Aug. 11, 2011, in Oklahoma City. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Remington Park with Carl Crisswell officiating. Strode Funeral Home is facilitating arrangements.

Deadly Virus forces quarantine in Oklahoma - May 21, 2011 - An Oklahoma horse is being tested for a dangerous herpes virus that has killed horses in the West and Midwest and led to cancellation of horse events in Tulsa and other cities.
 
HEAVY THUNDERSTORM SHORTENS THURSDAY RACING AT REMINGTON PARK - May 19, 2011 - A severe thunderstorm packing heavy rain and lightning forced the cancellation of the final two races on Thursday’s program at Remington Park.

The Remington Park racing surface was fast throughout the first seven races of the program before the storm hit just before race eight.

At that point, the weather was deemed too extreme to continue, citing safety concerns for the horses and all involved in the racing production. The final two races, the ninth and 10th, on the Thursday card were not contested.
 
Oklahoma Governor makes appointments - Tulsa, OK - May 3, 2011 - Gov. Mary Fallin on Monday announced her appointments to the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission.
 
Will Rogers Downs to Host Pfizer Starter Allowance Challenge - April 21, 2011 - Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Oklahoma, will host a regional Pfizer Starter Allowance Challenge on October 2nd.

The 350-yard race is for horses 3 and up who have started for a claiming price of $5,000 or less within 12 months prior to the sustaining or late payment deadline. It is a $15,000-added race.

The $100 nomination fee is due August 1st, and the $400 sustaining or $2,500 late payment is due September 1st. The trials are scheduled for September 18th.

Silver Goblin, Oklahoma first Entry in Preakness, dies - Bache, OK - March 12, 2011 - Silver Goblin, the millionaire earner that became the first Oklahoma-bred to run in the Preakness Stakes, was found dead in the gelding's pasture in Bache, Okla., on Monday. The horse died of natural causes, McAlester owner Al Horton said.

69-year-old Brooks back in saddle - OKLAHOMA CITY — March 4, 2011 - As he helped load injured jockey Roy Brooks into an ambulance last May, Remington Park general manager Scott Wells felt sad.

Brooks is a legend in the quarter horse world, still a competitive rider at age 69. He'd returned from injury before, but Wells seemed certain Brooks couldn't bounce back again, not after a horse fell on top of the jockey, breaking his pelvis and tearing his urethra.

A plan approved by the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission would call for funds to be set aside to help pay for retraining and care of Oklahoma-bred thoroughbred racehorses.
 
Will Rogers Downs opener delayed by weather - Claremore, OK - Feb. 18, 2011 - The Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission on Thursday voted to delay the start of thoroughbred racing at Will Rogers Downs by two weeks this spring because of recent inclement weather.
