festivities for its major
weeklong event of
Thoroughbred racing season.
The 3rd annual Oklahoma
Derby Week features the
Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall
of Fame induction ceremony,
a special
open-to-the-community expo,
Derby-style hat contest and
running of the 2011
Thoroughbred season’s
richest race. Oklahoma Derby
Week kicks off Tuesday, Oct.
11 and runs through Sunday,
Oct. 16.

Oklahoma horseman Ted Wells,
Jr. passed away at his home
near Pawhuska, Oklahoma on
September 16, at the age of
87, his family announced.
Wells was a member of the
Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall
of Fame, the Oklahoma
Quarter Horse Hall of Fame
and the Ruidoso Downs Hall
of Fame.

2011—Louisiana Senator, who
this year at Remington Park
won two Graded Stakes and
set a 400-yard track record,
will enter stud in 2012 at
Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie,
Oklahoma. Already an earner
of $377,908, Louisiana
Senator SI-111 will race the
remainder of the current
racing season before
shipping to Lazy E Ranch in
Guthrie.

will feature 28 stakes events on the 67-date schedule.
Led by the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby and the $300,000
Springboard Mile, the entire stakes schedule is worth
more than $3.2 million with 15 of the races carrying
purses of $100,000 or more. Stall apps available - The
first condition book for the season is expected to be
released by June 10.

dangerous herpes virus that has killed horses in the
West and Midwest and led to cancellation of horse events
in Tulsa and other cities.

- May 19, 2011 - A severe
thunderstorm packing heavy
rain and lightning forced
the cancellation of the
final two races on
Thursday’s program at
Remington Park.
The Remington Park racing
surface was fast throughout
the first seven races of the
program before the storm hit
just before race eight.
At that point, the weather
was deemed too extreme to
continue, citing safety
concerns for the horses and
all involved in the racing
production. The final two
races, the ninth and 10th,
on the Thursday card were
not contested.

Pfizer Starter Allowance
Challenge -
April 21, 2011 - Will Rogers
Downs in Claremore,
Oklahoma, will host a
regional Pfizer Starter
Allowance Challenge on
October 2nd.
The 350-yard race is for
horses 3 and up who have
started for a claiming price
of $5,000 or less within 12
months prior to the
sustaining or late payment
deadline. It is a
$15,000-added race.
The $100 nomination fee is
due August 1st, and the $400
sustaining or $2,500 late
payment is due September
1st. The trials are
scheduled for September
18th.

Brooks into an ambulance
last May, Remington Park
general manager Scott Wells
felt sad.
Brooks is a legend in the
quarter horse world, still a
competitive rider at age 69.
He'd returned from injury
before, but Wells seemed
certain Brooks couldn't
bounce back again, not after
a horse fell on top of the
jockey, breaking his pelvis
and tearing his urethra.

Oklahoma-bred thoroughbred racehorses.

the Oklahoma Racing Commission approved a racing
calendar for the state’s tracks. Remington’s meet
will open on Aug. 17 and continue through Dec. 10.

2010 - Rose Mary Chandler’s Acorn proved mightiest
in the $200,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship
(G1), holding off Diamond For Jess for a neck win in
track record time. The gelding, ridden by Alfonso
Lujan, went the 400 yards in :19.504, shaving a
1/100th off the record set by champion Vals Fortune
in 2004. Acorn was trained by Janet VanBebber.

CALOOSAHATCHEE WINS TURF FEATURE -
OKLAHOMA CITY – November 19, 2010 - When the early
frontrunners faded in the final quarter-mile of
Friday’s $29,500 optional allowance turf feature,
those that rally from off the pace began their
battle for the spoils. Caloosahatchee had the best
run of that group, seizing the lead with a furlong
to go to win as a 24-1 longshot in the event for
