new members have been elected to the
Fair Grounds Hall of Fame: Steve
Asmussen, a nine-time leading trainer at
Fair Grounds; Peace Rules, the 2003
Louisiana Derby and 2004 New Orleans
Handicap winner; and Rachel Alexandra,
the dominant 2009 Fair Grounds Oaks
winner. The first Fair Grounds Hall of
Fame class since 2005 will be inducted
March 24, the Thursday prior to the $1
million Louisiana Derby, at a ceremony
in the Fair Grounds Clubhouse. |

January 11, 2011 - Special Agent Guevara
of the Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) Agency met with
Louisiana horsemen at the Fair Grounds
earlier last week. Essentially, he gave
horsemen fair warning that if they did
not comply with the E-Verify or I-9
requirements – requirements which hold
that employers must file reports that
any foreign workers in their employ
carry the required documentation – they
(the employers) will now be held
responsible under the new immigration
laws. Employers who do not comply with
verification requirements can be subject
to fines and/or jail time. |

running of the Claiming Crown on

after the Breeders’ Cup, Claiming Crown
