Millennium Wind to Arizona - Nov. 30, 2011 - Grade I winner Millennium Wind has been moved to Little Kentucky near Waddell, Arizona.
 
Court orders sale of Yavapai Downs  - Nov. 22, 2011 - Early last spring, it became apparent that there would be no horse racing at Yavapai Downs in 2011, which was buried in debt and property taxes. Now, according to an article in the Arizona Republic, "Court Orders Yavapai Downs Sale," U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Redfield T. Baum has ordered the sale of Yavapai Downs.
 
Powell to FTBOA - Oct. 8, 2011 - The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association announced on Friday that racing industry veteran Lonny T. Powell has been selected to lead the organization and membership as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer. He will begin his duties Jan. 1, 2012.

Yavapai Group filed for Bankruptcy - Prescott AZ - July 14, 2011 - The Yavapai County Farm & Agriculture Association (YCFAA) announced that it has filed for protection under Chapter 7 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.
 
Turf Paradise will open its stable area Friday, Aug. 5

“We’re opening the stable area early to help horsemen still feeling the effects of Yavapai Downs canceling its summer meet,” said Francia. He said the local horsemen’s association and the track will share in the expenses.

The 157-day Turf Paradise meet opens Oct. 1 and runs through May 6, 2012. The main track is scheduled to be open for training Sept. 6. The track also recently announced an increase of 10 percent for its overnight purses and increase of 26 percent for stakes purses for the upcoming meet.

Coconino County cancels July horse races after loss of Yavapai - May 28, 2011 - Due to the loss of Yavapai Downs as a partner in producing the event, an increase in operating costs, and the elimination of state support for county racing in Arizona and Coconino County, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors voted Friday to cancel its county fair's annual horse races in early July.

Yavapai Downs racetrack appeals property taxes - PRESCOTT, AZ - May 15, 2011 - Yavapai Downs horse racetrack officials filed an appeal of the track's commercial status Thursday with the Yavapai County Assessor's Office.
 
Rillito Confirms Dates Through 2014 - Tucson, AZ - May 13, 2011 - Rillito has approved dates for the next three years of racing.

On Wednesday, the Arizona Department of Racing approved the Tucson, Arizona, track’s county fair and commercial racing permits through 2014.

The historic track will race nine weekends in 2012, 2013, & 2014.

The dates are January 28 through Mar 25, 2012; January 26 through March 24, 2013; and January 25 through March 23, 2014.

The first two weekends each year will be county fair racing and the remainder of the days will be commercial racing. AQHA
 
Pierce pushes for slots at AZ racetracks - Phoenix, AZ - May 13, 2011 - Arizona Senate Majority Whip Steve Pierce, R-Prescott, wants the Legislature to consider allowing slot machines and other types of gaming into horse and dog tracks as a way to boost revenue.
