Wyoming Downs to be auctioned

Evanston, WY - Oct. 26, 2011 - Wyoming Downs, Wyoming Downs, primarily a Quarter Horse track since opening in 1985, will be auctioned on November 16.

The Wyoming Downs race track, situated on 220+ acres, is located at 10180 State Highway 89N, Evanston, Wyoming. Originally opened in 1985, Wyoming Downs is the only horse racing track in the State of Wyoming. The track previously hosted nearly 30 weekend racing dates and saw attendance reach over 40,000 spectators in a single season. According to an economic impact study, Wyoming Downs brought over $6.5 million into the Wyoming economy.

The property will carry a suggested opening bid of $400,000.

Located in Evanston, Wyoming Downs features a 7 1/2-furlong dirt track, 860 stalls, and a grandstand that seats 2,100 people. It is owned by Wyoming Entertainment and Eric Spector serves as president.

In 2010, Spector was reported as saying that the track would not be able to conduct live racing because of changes to minimum requirements for racing affecting the track’s ability to carry simulcasting. He also said the track was affected by declining available purse money and declining horse population.
