Washington Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners Association to participate in NTRA Legislative Action Campaign's 1/4% checkoff program

June 24, 2011 - The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced today that the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners Association (WTBOA) will participate in the NTRA Legislative Action Campaign’s 1/4% checkoff program, which supports the NTRA’s federal lobbying and government relations efforts. Each year, the WTBOA hosts its Summer Yearling & Mixed Sale, which this year will take place on September 6 in Auburn, Wash.

At the September 6 sale, buyers and consignors of each horse at the WTBOA’s Summer Yearling & Mixed Sale may elect to have .25% of the purchase/sales price donated to the Legislative Action Campaign. The WTBOA joins Keeneland, Fasig-Tipton Co., Inc., Barretts and Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company as Thoroughbred sales companies that participate in the Campaign’s fundraising efforts.

“Everyone here at the WTBOA is proud to support the NTRA’s legislative efforts,” said Dana Halvorson, President of the WTBOA. “We want to make it easy for our buyers and sellers to contribute to this important program if they so choose.”

“We are extremely pleased to have the Washington Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association join the ranks of those that participate in our Legislative Action Campaign’s 1/4% checkoff program,” said Peggy Hendershot, the NTRA’s Senior Vice President-Legislative Affairs. “Our lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C., are nationwide in scope, and the WTBOA’s support will better highlight this important work to our many constituents in the Northwest.”

The Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association seeks to unite and represent those who are interested in breeding, owning, racing and improving Thoroughbreds in the state of Washington and the Northwest. To generate positive growth, interest and appreciation of Washington Thoroughbreds, the WTBOA is dedicated and committed to education, communication and collaboration, as well as marketing and promoting the nobility, history and benefits of Thoroughbreds.
