Texas Breeders' Heiligbrodt to
disperse June, 17, 2011 - For nearly 25 years, Texas
natives Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt have been among the nation’s
leading Thoroughbred owners, with a focus on two-year-old racing and
dominance of the circuits in the south and south-west. Today they
announced they will take a hiatus from the ownership ranks to devote
more time to family and other business interests. On July 12, at
Fasig-Tipton’s Newtown Paddocks in Lexington, Kentucky, the
Heiligbrodts will commence with Phase I of their racing and breeding
assets. The sale of approximately 80 Thoroughbreds of all ages will
be handled by Bluewater Sales.
The Heiligbrodts, with horses predominantly trained by Steve
Asmussen, have ranked in the Top 10 Leading National Owners every
year from 2007 to 2010 and have accumulated over 650 wins and
$21,500,000 in purses since 2005. Bill and Corinne have owned all or
part of 118 stakes-winners, 45 of which are graded stakes-winners.
Prominent among this group to carry their burnt orange and white
Texas-starred silks are the likes of Appealing Zophie (G1), Golden
Ballet (G1), Cashier’s Dream (G1), Posse, Caught In The Rain,
Lunarpal, Bwana Charlie and the brilliant millionaire and G1
stakes-record breaking sprinter Lady Tak.
Horses in the Heiligbrodt dispersal will be gathered from their
various locations around the country and stabled at Newtown Paddocks
and available for inspection beginning Saturday, July 9. The 80
entries will be offered by Bluewater Sales in a single, continuous
session immediately following Fasig-Tipton’s 2011 Kentucky Selected
Yearling Sale. In the catalogue will be horses of racing age 3 year
olds and up, two-year-olds in training, many of which are either
close to starting or have already appeared on the racetrack, in-foal
mares with their foals of 2011 by their side, and yearlings.
Included in Phase I is the very talented three-year-old Indian
Charlie colt CORNPIPER, whose two starts this year, a first and a
second at Santa Anita and Churchill Downs, have marked him as one to
follow and the recent stakes winning filly LOCAL.
Catalogues will be available online starting June 22 and in print
beginning June 25. Updated racing performance information will be
available on the Fasig-Tipton website
www.fasigtipton.com up to
the day of sale.
