Texas Racing Commission Approves Retama Park’s Request to Extend Live Meet

Sept. 22, 2011 - Excitement was in the morning air Wednesday morning at Retama Park. While watching his horses go thru morning workouts, veteran trainer Danny Pish struck a grateful chord when singing the praises of more live race dates this year. “ Its great news for us,” said Pish. Race fans echoed the sentiment when Michael Marke posted on Retama Park’s Facebook fan page, “We received more dates and more great live racing action for 2011”.

Retama Park received approval today from the Texas Racing Commission to add six nights of live racing to the 2011 Thoroughbred Meeting. The three additional weekends extend the current meet through Breeder’s Cup Day November 5. Retama Park requested the extension as part of a plan to remove four Thursday nights from the current schedule while adding six nights of weekend racing.

“This makes economic sense for the track and it provides our horsemen more racing opportunities. It also gives horsemen a place to train following the closing of our 2011 live meet and Sam Houston opening in January,” said Retama Park CEO Bryan Brown.

The TRC also approved Retama Park’s request for the 2012 live racing calendar. The 2012 Quarter Horse Meet is scheduled to run 20 nights from June 8 to August 11.The

2012 Thoroughbred Meet is scheduled to run 26 nights from October 5 to December 29.
