Increases in Total Handle and Attendance
Nov. 16, 2011 - 2011 was a
year in which Retama Park raced a full compliment of
Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses for the first time
since 2008. Season ending numbers show the 2011 meeting
compared favorably to 2009 and 2010. Track management’s
decision extending the recent Thoroughbred meeting by
three weekends and removing Thursdays from the schedule
was the right one.
“Changing our schedule in
mid-season helped tremendously,” said CEO Bryan Brown.
“We moved quickly once we
saw the trend on Thursday’s and taking our live meet
thru Breeders’ Cup weekend was a big plus for us,” Brown

Breeders’ Cup November 5
was bustling energetic Saturday as 4,033 fans wagered a
total of $681,165 at Retama Park a nine per cent
increase in handle over 2010.
Below is an analysis of
attendance and handle when compared to 2010 and 2009.
Retama raced 16 days in 2010 and 32 days in 2009
compared to 23 live days in 2011.
