Powell
to FTBOA
Oct. 8, 2011 - The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association
announced on Friday that racing industry veteran Lonny T. Powell has been
selected to lead the organization and membership as its new Executive Vice
President and Chief Executive Officer. He will begin his duties Jan. 1, 2012.
Powell currently serves as the Director of the Arizona Department of Racing and
Boxing, where he serves as a member of Governor Jan Brewer's Cabinet, as well as
an administrative law judge for the department. Powell has served in a number of
high-profile positions within the industry, including as Santa Anita CEO,
University of Arizona Race Track Industry program director, Racing Commissioners
International President and a senior vice president for an advanced deposit
wagering company. "I am delighted that Lonny
accepted our proposals and I can assure you that he fits the vision
that I have had for this organization from my past years as
president," said FTBOA President Fred Brei. "A quote from Lonny that
certainly fits my last year and his future: 'Think bigger, dream
larger, laugh louder and achieve more.' In times like this and in an
economy like this, we all should adopt that motto.
