CALEB’S POSSE WINS BREEDERS’ CUP DIRT MILE
OKLAHOMA CITY - November 5, 2011 - Caleb’s Posse, winner of the $100,000 Clever
Trevor Stakes at Remington Park in 2010 as a 2-year-old, has developed into an
outstanding 3-year-old on the national racing scene. Saturday afternoon he won
the Grade 1, $1,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs in
Louisville, Ky.
Caleb’s Posse is owned by the Edmond, Okla. partnership of McNeill Stables (Don
McNeill) & Cheyenne Stables (Everett Dobson) and is trained by Remington Park’s
all-time leading conditioner, Donnie Von Hemel who resides in Piedmont, Okla.
Jockey Rajiv Maragh, based in New York, had the mount on Caleb’s Posse.
Caleb’s Posse won his fourth Graded stakes race of the season and his second
Grade 1 event. A graded stakes race represents one of roughly 450 stakes races
in the USA deemed to be the most important races by the American Graded Stakes
Committee.
The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile win is the eighth career win for Caleb’s Posse from
16 lifetime attempts. He has won five races in 2011. The winner’s check of
$540,000 moves Caleb’s Posse to $1,153,379 overall.
Bred in Kentucky by Don McNeill, Caleb’s Posse is a colt by Posse from the
Slewacide mare Abbey’s Missy. The victory in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile is the
first in any Breeders’ Cup race for trainer Donnie Von Hemel.
Remington Park Thoroughbred racing continues Wednesday thru Saturday, Nov. 9-12
at 6:30pm nightly. The feature event on Friday, Nov. 11 is the $100,000 Clever
Trevor Stakes, the second leg of the 2011 Remington Park 2-year-old stakes
series which culminates with the $300,000 Springboard Mile in December.
Open daily at 10am for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park also
features Henry Hudson’s on the first floor, which opens for lunch at 11am.
