Louisiana Thoroughbred sale posts
major increases West Monroe, LA - Sept. 29, 2011 - The
Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana’s yearling auction posted major
increases of 41.6% in its average price and 34.3% in its median
price while experiencing a downturn in the buy-back rate Sept. 27.
A son of Afleet Alex topped the sale, bringing $120,000 at the Ike
Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe, La.
Mary K. Grum purchased the bay colt, which is the second foal out of
Swifty Victress. The Macho Uno mare captured the D. S. Shine Young
Memorial Futurity and the John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes in 2007
at Evangeline Downs.
Clear Creek Stud, agent, consigned the sale-topping colt.
The most expensive filly and the second-highest-priced yearling
overall was a $90,000 daughter of Private Vow out of Dandy’s
Sunshine (by Premiership). L.R. Lasater bought the filly from Red
River Farm, agent.
The results for the auction included a gross of $1,479,400 for the
135 yearlings that were sold. The average was $10,959 and the median
was $4,700. Compared to last year, the gross and number sold sold
fell 3% and 31.5%, respectively.
The buy-back rate was 34.1% compared to 38.1% in 2010.
