Livestock Department puts Montana
Board of Horse Racing official on leave
HELENA - Dec. 10, 2011 - The executive secretary of the Montana Board of Horse
Racing has been placed on paid administrative leave by the state Livestock
Department.
Put on indefinite leave Thursday was Ryan Sherman, the board's lone full-time
employee. In the past, the board has hired seasonal staff to help with horse
races in the summer.
Christian Mackay, executive secretary of the Montana Department of Livestock,
confirmed Friday that Sherman had been placed on administrative leave, but said
he couldn't discuss the reasons.
"It's indefinite at this time," he said.
Sherman could not be reached for comment.
It is common practice for state agencies to put employees on paid administrative
leave while they investigate job-related issues. Depending on the outcome of the
investigations, it sometimes can lead to employees being fired or asked to
resign.
Mackay said he will be handling Sherman's duties for now.
