Legends of Racing at Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale

Heritage Place hosts a night of racing legends November 3.

Oct. 12, 2011 - A reunion of American Quarter Horse Racing Legends will be held November 3 as the kickoff event for the November 4-5 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale.

With the sale ring at Heritage Place transformed into a stage, seven legendary figures from the early days of organized American Quarter Horse racing will sit in overstuffed leather chairs and tell how it was and how they did it so many years ago.

“We’re calling this thing ‘A Night With The Legends’ and I think it is an excellent way to honor some of the true pioneers in this business,” said Heritage Place general manager and chief financial officer Jeff Tebow.

Accepting invitations to appear are:

MARVIN BARNES--long-time owner and breeder who ran 1-2 in the All American Futurity in 1982 with Mr Master Bug and Miss Squaw Hand.

DR. CHARLES GRAHAM—Elgin, Texas, industry leader who stood All American Futurity winners from Three Oh’s in 1968 to Mr Piloto in 2010.

JOHN T.L. JONES JR.—Had his hands on Three Bars, Jet Smooth, Hempen and Zevi and then won this year’s All American Futurity with his home-bred Ochoa.

BUBBA CASCIO—He trained All American Futurity winners Three Oh’s and Rocket Wrangler and two-time World Champion Dash For Cash.

JACK BROOKS—From Moon Lark in 1978 to Eyesa Special in 2000, he has won that elusive All American Futurity trophy a record 8 times.

PAT THOMPSON—Pioneer horseman who trained such important early-day runners as 1961 Champion She Kitty and 1962 Champion Little Chloe.

JOE KIRK FULTON—Breeder of World Champions Dashs Dream and Special Leader plus leading sire Mr Eye Opener and so many more major horses.

“These guys are some of the living legends of this industry . . . some of the people who laid the foundations of what we have today. We’re putting them on a stage in big leather chairs with microphones and Scott Wells and Chris Kotulak are going to moderate a discussion.

“There will be time for a question/answer session and then time for photos with this all-star gathering.

“This is going to be a very special evening and we hope to make this an annual event with a new cast every year.”

The November 3 festivities begin with the consignor’s pre-sale party at 5 p.m. to be followed in the sale auditorium with the Legends event at 6 p.m.

The Legends gathering will precede the November 4-5 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale which offers 539 head of broodmares, stallions, yearlings, weanlings and horses of racing age. Included in the offering of stallions are Grade 1 winner and stakes sire Finding Nemo ($719,544); champion and leading sire Okey Dokey Dale ($250,091) and stakes winner and stakes sire Scrutinizer ($343,197).
