LQHBA Yearling Sale Numbers Up

Kinder, LA - August 14, 2011 - The LQHBA Louisiana-bred Yearling Sale ended its two-day run on Saturday evening in Kinder with impressive numbers compared to last year. The sale began an uptick on Friday and continued to rise in average, median and gross receipts through Saturday.

Preliminary sale results show an 18% increase in average to $8,148 compared to $6,723 in 2010. The sale median price rose by 27.5% to $5,200 as compared to $3,750 last year. Gross receipts were even up 4% to $2,591,200, despite 120 head less cataloged, with 318 marked sold from 450 offered. Last year's gross receipts for horses marked sold from the 570 head cataloged were $2,487,650.

TM Ranch purchased the high-seller, Fast N Salty, a Heza Fast Dash colt out of Salt Crystal by Salt Lake (TB) for $67,000. The sorrel yearling consigned by Donald Aymond and David Bates Jr. is a half brother to stakes winner and track record holder Salty King Corona ($141,407) and stakes-placed Shimmering Crystal.

Eric Johnson purchased the second high-seller, Shez All Maxed Out, a Game Patriot filly out of the Evangeline Downs Futurity winner Streakin Amber by Streakin La Jolla. The filly consigned by Robicheaux Ranch Inc., agent for Arnold Trahan, brought a final bid of $51,000.

First-crop sire Jet Black Patriot sired the third high-seller, Janelle D. Simon's Cerveza Jet, also purchased by Eric Johnson. The brown colt is out of the stakes-placed Corona Cartel mare Corona Cerveza and is a half brother to stakes-placed Corona Toast ($185,447) and Corona Dashing Bye ($47,291).

TM Ranch was the sale's leading buyer with five head for $139,500, followed by Johnson with three purchases for $114,500 and Joseph Landreneau with five yearlings for $59,700.

Jumonville Farms was the leading consignor with seven head for a total of $101,900. Donald Aymond and David Bayes Jr. had four yearlings gross $98,500, while Narciso Flores sold six head for $75,400.

Game Patriot led all sale sires with 24 head averaging $21,383. First-crop sire Jet Black Patriot had a strong showing to finish second with 29 head sold for a $12,734 average. Heza Fast Dash was third with 29 head for an average of $11,286 and Bigtime Favorite sold 18 head for a $10,633 average.

Other first-crop sale sire leaders were Coronas Leaving You with 16 head for a $10,094 average and Onthewingsofglory had two head averaging $9,250.
